As an international company with over 100 employees spread across our offices in Prague, London and Dallas (and colleagues working remotely), we don't get the chance to come together and enjoy each other's company in person very often. Last week, our international teambuilding gave us that chance, and it's safe to say we made the most of it!
Over 80 members of the IP Fabric team gathered together in Prague before we set off for our final destination - the beautiful mountain town of Zell am See in Austria. After a marathon 8-hour bus ride, we finally arrived in the picturesque town, surrounded by beautiful scenery dominated by the Kitzsteinhorn mountain and glacier to the south.
Post check-in, we found some surprises waiting for us in our room; custom Braasi backpacks, Ocean water bottles, and SKOBA notebooks welcomed us in style. Each of these items was thoughtfully selected to be high quality and as sustainable as possible. SKOBA and Braasi are both Czech brands, chosen to celebrate our IP Fabric founders.
After resting for a short while, it was time to enjoy some Austrian hospitality with a three-course dinner, (many) drinks and a chance to properly introduce ourselves to our colleagues from all over the world.
The next day was jam-packed with a range of exciting activities for all of the team to enjoy. First up, for those who were brave enough to be up and out at 10 am, was a hike through the beautiful rolling hills of Zell am See, or a bike ride around the lake.
Afterward, the team regrouped in the center of Zell am See to prepare for our next activity - A scavenger hunt. After being split into 8 teams assigned with different color wristbands (Go Team Yellow!), it was time to start adventuring.
The hunt tested each team's ability to use a compass, communicate as a team, and decipher some German plaques to answer a variety of trivia questions about the history of Zell am See (Did you know that the Vogt tower in the town center is 36m tall? Neither did some of us!)
After racing across town for a few hours, we gathered by Zeller See to find out who had won the ultimate prize - drumroll please - with Team Blue taking the top honors and their place at the top of the podium.
Following our adventurous afternoon, it was time for dinner and champagne at a nearby restaurant before the much anticipated IP Fabric pub quiz, with 30 questions testing how much we knew about both IP Fabric and our fellow teammates. Some of the questions put to the teams included:
Team '404: Name Not Found' went down in history as the first winners of the IP Fabric pub quiz, with a very impressive score of 26/30.
The next morning would be our last in Zell am See. But before we headed to the buses, we had time for one more activity, which was perhaps the most challenging of them all - building a bridge that we could walk over. After splitting into teams and assigning project managers, we worked together to build our bridge in sections with a variety of wooden poles and ropes.
While the bridge unfortunately didn't hold all of us (we do networks better than bridges), the activity highlighted just how much our team can achieve when we work together.
Before we departed, there was just enough time for a dip in the lake, and one last set of team photos to commemorate the time we all spent together. We can't wait for the next chance to get together and celebrate both each other and the future of IP Fabric!
