Meet us at Cisco Live Las Vegas 2024

If I were to say that you could:

without having to manually trawl through dozens of device configurations and "show" command outputs? Or writing Python scripts using a collection of open source libraries? Or creating Ansible playbooks using plugins you have to find and install yourself? What would you think?

That doesn't sound easy - but it can be. Join me as I look into how IP Fabric looks at the network end-to-end and spots issues with consistency and relationships between nodes.  As a result, the system gives you the tools to help you make your network run more smoothly!

How IP Fabric works

IP Fabric works with snapshots, each one being a point-in-time database of the network state.

Firstly, the tool runs a new data discovery. It proceeds to capture all aspects of the configuration and state in all of your network nodes, regardless of device vendor. After that, IP Fabric then stores the data in a standardised form so that relationships between devices can be understood.

There is no machine learning, AI or smoke-and-mirrors. Rather, the tool discovers the network and analyses its behaviour as if it were a network engineer.

Once discovery is complete, IP Fabric assembles a layered topology view, which can then be viewed in dynamic diagrams. Snapshots run at regular intervals and allow you to track changes to the network over time.

Verification checks

The platform uses the collective experience of IP Fabric's team of networking experts, and builds a view of the network compliance with a set of more than 100 verification checks. For instance, these checks show:

The user can also build their own verification checks using a simple builder interface without having to learn a complex scripting language.

Ready to go

The one thing you don't have to do is wait! IP Fabric is quick and easy to set up, and is ready to start showing its value immediately the first discovery snapshot is run.

A huge range of functionality is provided "out of the box". There's no need to assemble the platform from different elements, or cajole numerous tools to try and work together to get immediate value. You can also take advantage of one of the many ways of integrating IP Fabric into your existing tool chain.

The network data is accessible via an intuitive Web UI by your network operations team and also via an extensive REST API. As a result, it can become the key enabler in any automated network management ecosystem - the Source of Observed Truth for active network inventory.

Fix your network!

This series of posts examines how data that is held in IP Fabric can be used to help smooth the running of your network.
